June 17th, July 15th, and August 19th – Summer 2017 Swim & Sprint – Summer in Texas gets hot; cool off with this fun series in Galveston! Keep track of your progress throughout the summer, and have some fun. The cost is $20 per race, or save money and get swag when you register for multiple races or the whole series together. The Swim & Sprint is a 300 yard pool swim and one mile run, chip timed. The series also offers open swims, clinics, gear, and fun. June 17th (9am-3pm) – Newton Running Demo – Fit Tri Run hosts Newton. Come try out the Gravity 6 and Motion 6. Fit Tri Run is located at 518 23rd St.
August 12th – Galveston Sand Crab 5K, 10K, and Kid’s Beach Mile – Start and finish at East Beach in Apffel Park. Run entirely on sand, the Sand Crab is a great way to get a little exercise under the stars on a beautiful Galveston Beach at night and have a few beers and other refreshments while listening to great music with other runners on a summer night. All races are chip timed including the Kid’s Mile. The Kid’s Mile will start at 8pm. Parents are welcome to run with kids free of charge. The 5K/10K will start at 8:30pm. The 5K run is very walker friendly with a two hour cut off. The 10K is walkable but will share the two hour cut off. 10K runners must be at the 3.1 mile turnaround within one hour. September 17th – Captain Kids Triathlon – In its 4th year, Captain Kids Tri is a triathlon just for kids. There are two divisions: Mates (USAT age 11-14) and Mini Mates (USAT ages 6-10) with different course distances. This race is $65 and is limited to 600 participants. October 14th – 2017 Bay Area/Galveston Walk to End Alzheimer’s – Held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide, the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s® is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support, and research. This inspiring event calls on participants of all ages and abilities to reclaim the future for millions. October 21st – The Toughest 10K Galveston – This run is part of The Texas Bridge Series. Run the Kemah Bridge in September, the Galveston Causeway in October, and the Fred Hartman Bridge in November to get a commemorative special medal. November 10th – World Class Racewalking Clinic – Do you want to learn to Racewalk, or to walk a 5k, half-marathon, or marathon faster? Join U.S. National Racewalk Team member and fifteen-time U.S. National Champion Dave McGovern for this unique racewalking event. Participants will learn techniques used by elite walkers at the U.S. Olympic Training Centers to help you to racewalk faster and more efficiently with fewer injuries. If you don’t race, these techniques can help you to lose weight, get fit, and feel great. Registration for this event begins at $175. December 17th – Santa Hustle Half Marathon and 5k – See Galveston unlike ever before as thousands of Santas race along the streets and the oceanfront path. Jingle all the way through the course with candy and cookies, festive music, creative Christmas images, and so much more, it is all designed to get you in the perfect holiday mood. It is bound to be a Christmas tradition you do with your family and friends year after year. All participants receive a hat and beard. Registration opens June 1st. February 18th (7:30) – 8th Annual Galveston Marathon, Half Marathon, and 5k – Enjoy the fun and party of the 8th Annual Galveston Half and Full Marathon and the 5K. Same new course as 2017. The start/finish will be at Stewart Beach Park, 201 Seawall Blvd., Galveston. The Half Marathon will be a one loop course with the full marathon taking you a second time up and down the seawall. The event is run on the roads not the beach. Race start times are: Wheelchair/handcyclist will start at 7:15am, Marathon and Half Marathon will start at 7:30am, and Cupid 5k will start at 7:45am.
