Second Saturday of every Month (9-11am) – “Birding 101” is presented by Moody Gardens and Galveston Island Nature Tourism Council and is a series of free classes designed to educate and excite people about the tremendous variety of bird life routinely seen around Galveston Island. Third Saturday of every Month (9-11am) – “Birding 201” classes allow participants, led by an instructor, to visit areas on the Island to find a tremendous variety of birds. Participants should meet in the Aquarium Pyramid lobby at Moody Gardens, located at 1 Hope Blvd. The cost for the class is $5, and Moody Gardens will provide transportation. Galveston Offers New Birding Tours – Did you know that more than 300 species of birds reside or travel through Galveston every year? Or that the island is located on the trans-Gulf bird migration route? Indeed, these are a couple of reasons the island is one of the top locations for bird-watching in the United States. Visitors now have a new way to explore this fascinating aspect of the island with birding tours offered by the Galveston Island Nature Tourism Council. These tours feature the island’s top birding hot spots and take visitors to see, learn about, and photograph rare and unique birds up close and personal. July 7th (6am-6pm) – West End Slam Tournament – Come out and join the fun at this all day fishing tournament plus games, food, and more. The West End Anglers is a community of fishermen who love to fish in Galveston’s West Bay. Membership is free, so come share your fishing stories, photos, and videos and join the organization.
