For families staying in Galveston this year for spring break, or those who will be entertaining young guests, Galveston Arts Center has kids’ creative needs covered over the break.
GAC will host Art Camps Monday-Friday, March 12th-16th. Campers can enroll in either of two camps: one from 9am-12 noon for artists in grades K-2, and the other from 1-4pm for artists in grades 3-7. Grade levels are merely suggestions, but all students must at least be in Kindergarten.
Art Camps are held in the fully accessible studio classroom at Galveston Arts Center’s location at 2127 Strand at the corner of 22nd. Galveston Arts Center members can receive a $30 discount off the $150 tuition for the week. All materials are included.
Time Travel Art Camp – Grades K-2 (Monday-Friday, 9am-12 noon) – Time Travel through art with teaching artist Rachel Stokes. Each day, campers will cover a different time period in art, from prehistoric cave-painting to imagining the art of the future. Kids will create multimedia flat and 3-D take-home and group art projects for hands-on exploration of art history, new skills, and creative problem-solving.
World Travel Art Camp – Grades 3-7 (Monday-Friday, 1-4pm) – See the world in art with teaching artist Cristal Aldrete. Campers will explore and imagine art in different locales, paying special attention to how traditional cultural art forms influence contemporary art and new media in those places. Work together on group art projects and independently on take-home creations; discover inspiring techniques and ideas through the lens of world travel.
Education programs at Galveston Arts Center strive to explore contemporary art topics and to improve understanding of the techniques and thought processes behind art making. Programs offer dynamic lesson plans that encourage students to learn new skills, take creative risks, develop original ideas, and express themselves with confidence and joy.
Online enrollment is currently open at galvestonartscenter.org/spring-art-camp.
