Summer Events: FREE Fireworks Show Sundays

Millions of visitors flock to Galveston’s 32 miles of beaches every summer, but there’s more to celebrate about this island than its sparkling Gulf waters.  As vacation season begins, a full slate of special events will showcase the best of Galveston – from its fascinating history to its delicious cuisine. Here’s a look at special events taking place in Galveston this summer:

Stay and Play Sundays
Date: Through Sept. 2, 2018
Time: 9 p.m.

In Galveston, visitors don’t have to wait until the 4th of July to see fireworks. That’s because the island will host free fireworks shows every weekend this summer. The beachfront fireworks shows will take place at 9 p.m. on Sundays June 3 through Sept. 2. Sponsored by the Galveston Island Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB), the fireworks displays will launch over the Gulf of Mexico near Seawall Boulevard and 37th Street. The fireworks shows provide an opportunity for visitors to extend their weekends and enjoy additional entertainment at the beach. Independence Day Parade and Fireworks Display

Description: On the evening of July 4, Galveston Island will celebrate its annual Independence Day parade featuring a procession of floats, decorated military vehicles and performers. The parade will kick off at 7:45 p.m. with a procession on Seawall Boulevard starting at 41st Street and continuing to 14th Street. After the parade, the island will host a 20-minute fireworks show over the Gulf of Mexico at 9:15 p.m. near 37th Street and Seawall Boulevard. The fireworks show is sponsored by the Galveston Park Board of Trustees.

AIA Sandcastle Competition
Date: Aug. 25, 2018
Time: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Description: For the 32nd year, Houston area architects, designers, engineers, and contractors will take their tools to Galveston’s East Beach Aug. 25 for what is considered one of the world’s largest amateur sandcastle competitions. The Houston Chapter of the American Institute of Architects sponsors this annual contest in which the public is invited to watch more than 80 teams compete for the best sandcastle design.

Brewmasters Craft Beer Festival

Description: Don’t miss one of the largest craft beer festivals in Texas as Galveston’s Moody Gardens hosts the Brewmasters Craft Beer Festival over Labor Day weekend. The event will feature more than 400 craft beers with a celebration showcasing award-winning “brewmasters” at two signature events: the BrewLicious Beer & Food Pairing and the BrewHaHa Grand Tasting. Attendees can hoist their mugs while enjoying live music, beer and food pairing seminars, educational events about brewing and more.

Description: Galveston Island is a seafood lover’s paradise all year round, but this September Yaga’s Entertainment Inc. will bring foodies a little taste of heaven at the Galveston Island Shrimp Festival. Featuring some of the best shrimp gumbo the Gulf Coast has to offer, the festival features a seafood cook-off, gumbo tasting, parade, live music and more.

Galveston Family Beach Challenge

Description: Families are invited to go head to head in a series of competitions including giant Jenga, sack races and more – all to win some fantastic prizes. These events are free to the public and structured for groups of four people. The family with the most points at the end of the day will receive a $500 gift card, plus tickets to island attractions.

Movie Nite on the Strand
