Labor Day weekend is a favorite holiday for celebrating the last days of summer and welcoming a new season and another school year. Whether you’re a resident of Galveston Island or planning a visit over the holiday weekend, check out some of these events and things to do over Labor Day weekend.

Enjoy Texas Craft Beer at Brewmasters Craft Beer Festival

The Lone Star state is home to over 275 craft beer breweries. Whether you brew your own or just like to support local business, the 10th annual Brewmaster Craft Beer Festival is an excellent opportunity to check out some new brews.

The festival is at Moody Gardens in Galveston over Labor Day weekend. Click here for more details about the event, including activities and food vendors.

Sunday Hootenanny Jam at Galveston Island Brewing Company

Galveston Island Brewery is a dog and family-friendly brewery that has an on-site taproom and is open seven days a week. If you’re in the mood for enjoying a pint and listening to music, Dem Roots Reggae is the featured band for the Sunday Hootenanny Jam event.

Welcome in a new season with GIB’s Oktoberfest beer. Check out the brewery website for more information and events taking place over Labor Day weekend.

Spend the Day at Pleasure Pier

Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier is a “must see” attraction for out-of-towners and a popular spot to visit for residents of the area. Spend the afternoon on the rides, playing classic Midway games, or watch the feature at the 5D theatre.

Grab a bite to eat and a cold drink from one of the eateries at the Pleasure Pier. During the holiday weekend, you can buy a pass that’s good for unlimited visits all weekend long. Click here for more information.

Check Out Galveston Island State Park

While the camp sites are already filled over the Labor Day weekend at Galveston Island State Park, you can still spend the day hiking around, spending time at the beach, and check out other things to do in the park.

If you’re a fan of the South Beach in the state park, now’s the time to visit as it will be closed for a few years starting on September 3rd. Contact the park for more information.

Safety Tips for the Holiday Weekend

Car accidents, traffic, and DUI arrests are more prevalent during busy holiday weekends.

Even if you’re not drinking and driving, there’s a good chance that you’ll be sharing the road with an impaired driver.

If you’re attending an event where alcohol is served and you plan on enjoying an alcoholic beverage, don’t forget to consider your options for getting home safely.

Designate a sober driver, but if you’re unable to find someone who’s willing to be a designated driver check out the Free Sober Ride program or other rideshare opportunities.
