Learn to Cook with WIC @ Bryan Museum

August 20th, September 17th (12 noon): Learn to Cook with WIC – This free cooking class is led by Chef Mary Bass. Students can eat a fresh meal for lunch, gain cooking knowledge, and create a recipe based on average monthly WIC benefits. RSVP to (409)938-7221. You can receive $30 of FREE fruits, vegetables, and plants from local farmers at the weekly markets. Vouchers are good until Halloween and can only be distributed one per year. You must bring your WIC “Shopping List” (the paper printout you get at the clinic) in order to receive the vouchers.

‘A Little History & Lunch with Bobby’ at Hotel Galvez @ Hotel Galvez

Every Thursday (11am): A Little History and Lunch with Bobby at Hotel Galvez – Take a Hotel Galvez History Tour with guest favorite Mr. Bobby, the hotel’s guest ambassador, as he shares the history of Galveston and the hotel along with his personal anecdotes about growing up in Galveston and working at Hotel Galvez as a teenager more than 70 years ago. Off and on, Mr. Bobby has worked at Hotel Galvez for more than 20 years and has stories to tell. Following the tour, join Mr. Bobby for lunch in Galvez Bar & Grill. The history tour and lunch package is $34 per person and inclusive with a pre-set menu offering five wonderful lunch options, cornbread muffins, bread pudding, and iced tea or coffee. Advance reservations are required and available by calling (409)765-7721.   Tours are held every Thursday at 11am. Hotel Galvez is located at 2024 Seawall Blvd. in Galveston.

Galveston’s Own Farmers Market at Bryan Museum @ Bryan Museum

Every Thursday 3-6pm and Sunday 9am-12 noon (note new summer hours), Galveston’s Own Farmers Market is held at The Bryan Museum Gardens, located at 1315 21st St. Come to the beautiful Conservatory and botanical gardens to relax and enjoy time and conversation with friends, family, and museum staff while shopping for locally grown produce, prepared foods, and edible farm products, plus live music, yoga, massage, crafting and Kids Corner! 

The Thursday market features all of the perks that you’ve come to expect at the market plus the added charms of the Bryan Museum’s “Wine at the Bryan” weekly event.

Thirsty Thursdays is every 3rd Thursday wherein Galveston Island Brewing donates beers first-come, first-serve to our market customers. They shop, sip and stroll the market while exploring the museum grounds & buying local foods.

The Sunday market also features wonderful goods and the charm of Bryan’s courtyard. It is always free to browse and most events are FREE to participate. 

At every market, there will be:

  • Live music
  • A chance to learn more about The Bryan Museum
  • FREE recycling with Keepin’ It Green: Every week, they accept your clean, rinsed recyclable plastics, glass, aluminum and paper/cardboard. KIG comes to pick it up every week aftermarket.
  • Family-friendly activities sponsored by partners like Rosenberg Library, Galveston Island State Park, Galveston Island Humane Society, etc.

GOFM is always “BYOC” – bring your own cup. They have eliminated single-use cups for the free Sunday morning coffee station and Thursday water station. Support the initiative by cleaning out your cupboards and donating unwanted mugs to market for others to use.

Rhapsody on the Reef at Moody Gardens @ Moody Gardens

Join us for one of nature’s most spectacular events that occurs every year in the Gulf of Mexico. The annual coral spawning in the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary is one of the most bizarre and beautiful phenomena you may ever see.

Join us at the Aquarium Pyramid for the Rhapsody on the Reef event, where you can see this rare occurrence with as we live-stream the coral spawning with special presentations from NOAA, Galveston Bay Foundation and others, music, a delightful menu of hors d’oeuvres and desserts, cash bar and silent auction items.
 
Early bird special! Tickets are $85 per person with proceeds benefiting the Moody Gardens Coral Conservation fund.
