Hotel Galvez & Spa®, A Wyndham Grand® Hotel is hosting its twelfth annual Galveston Holiday Lighting Celebration on Friday, November 29th at 6pm featuring performances from The Nutcracker, area choirs and dance groups, and the Galveston Community Band. The Lighting Celebration highlights one of the more than 50 days of holiday fun in Galveston, the “Winter Wonder Island” of Texas. The Galveston Holiday Lighting Celebration is an annual, free family event and marks the start of the official holiday season in Galveston.
The Galveston Holiday Lighting Celebration begins with the arrival of Santa Claus by horse-drawn carriage, followed by the lighting of the hotel’s 35-foot Christmas tree with a countdown led by Santa Claus and Galveston’s Mayor Pro-Tem Craig Brown. KHOU-TV’s Mia Gradney will emcee the event.
Performance groups include the Galveston Community Band directed by Doyle Neuwiller, Fanfare Lutheran Music Academy Singers and Dancers led by Anita Donato, Trinity School Choir led by Laura Hyatt, The Burnet Royals directed by Stephanie Silva, and DLS Dance Studio under the direction of Tatiana Verega. The evening concludes with a performance by the Galveston Ballet under the direction of Janel Amsallem. Dickens on The Strand’s Queen Victoria and other special characters will also make appearances during the festivities. Additionally, children can have photos taken with Santa Claus in the hotel’s Music Hall. Souvenir photos with Santa by KC Photography will be available for purchase for $15.
Throughout the evening’s festivities, Hotel Galvez staff collects monetary donations for the Salvation Army to help make the holidays brighter for all members of the community.
Hotel Galvez & Spa will unveil its special “The Night Before Christmas” themed gingerbread village on Thursday, November 28th. This famous poem will be recreated in gingerbread for guests to enjoy. The gingerbread house is on public display in the lobby through January 2nd.
“We are honored to host another Holiday Lighting Celebration for our guests and the local community,” says Complex General Manager Marty Miles. “Every year, this event gets bigger and it’s a fun way to celebrate the beginning of the 2019 Christmas and holiday season.”

Brunch at Hotel Galvez is a family tradition for many guests. The hotel will begin taking Thanksgiving Brunch reservations on Monday, November 4th and Christmas Day Brunch reservations on Monday, December 2nd. Advance reservations are required and are available by calling (409)515-2028. Additionally, the hotel hosts Sunday Brunch with Santa every Sunday in December before Christmas.
For those seeking a romantic New Year’s Eve Dinner, Hotel Galvez offers a special four-course dinner at Galvez Bar & Grill. Dinner is served 5-10pm and advance reservations are suggested.
