Spring Giving Back Opportunities Abound

This spring, you can make a difference in a variety of ways. Check out these upcoming events:

Lemonade Day 2019 Preparations Begin

May 4th (all day): Lemonade Day will take place and with that in mind, it’s time to start preparing and planning. These events are planned:

February 7th (5-7pm): Education Expo & Lemonade Day Kick Off for Galveston – Take a stroll down the yellow lemon road to learn about the educational offers and opportunities throughout the region – from schools and lessons to summer camps and fun activities. Complete your passport to success, enjoy hot dogs from The Spot, and then register for Lemonade Day Galveston County. You will receive your backpack, materials, and a t-shirt at registration. Please remember that you must have an adult sign your registration form to participate in Lemonade Day. This will be held at Odyssey Academy, 2412 61st St., Galveston and is open to everyone to attend.

April 27th (10am-1pm); Build a Stand, Spark a Dream and Best Lemonade Tasting Contest – As part of Galveston Lemonade Day preparations, come out to Village Hardware, 6627 Stewart Rd., Galveston and “Build a Stand.” Kits will be available for registered young entrepreneurs to purchase for $19.99. Volunteers will be on site to assist youth to assemble their stand. Participants should make arrangements to move their stands off-site after construction. Also you can get a headstart on your best lemonade with the “Best Tasting Contest.” Do you think your lemonade is a cut above everyone else’s? Participate in the 2019 Lemonade Day Galveston County Best Tasting Contest right after the Build A Stand, Spark a Dream event. All interested participants should arrive by 10am to register. Bring one gallon of your lemonade in an unmarked, disposable container. Winners with the best tasting lemonade will receive a trophy and certificate to celebrate their product and the creativity that went into developing it. More Good Cause Events

March 7th (6-9pm): 2019 “A Shore Thing” Seaside Spring Soiree – This year’s event will take place at the 1880 Garten Verein in Galveston and will feature heavy hors-d’oeuvres, libations, live entertainment, and more. The event will raise funds to support GEF and the Grants to Teachers and Schools program where financial assistance is provided to purchase learning materials and implement innovative programming in Galveston Independent School District (GISD) classrooms. Live entertainment will set the tone for dancing and fun. A silent auction will present a robust shopping experience with something for every budget from lavish vacations, professional/college sports tickets, and assorted merchandise. The event will also highlight projects most recently funded by GEF and the educators implementing the projects. Tickets $100 and available at galvestonedfoundation.org.

March 8th (3-5pm): Kendra Gives Back Party – Join the fun in the Main Lobby of the Hotel Galvez, 2024 Seawall Blvd., Galveston, for a Kendra Gives Back Party. 20% of the proceeds will benefit the Galveston Island Nature Tourism Council. March 9th (9-6pm): 41st Corvette Chevy Expo – The Corvette Chevy Expo will be celebrating its 41st anniversary. This all Chevrolet event features world-class show cars indoors and also the new outdoor Show ‘N Shine for both Saturday and Sunday. Major national vendors from across the county will be available offering free shipping and discounts. Al Knoch Interiors will be doing on-site convertible top installations, as well as interior installations. Check out the cars for sale, craft show, and food court. Meet the celebrities from In WheelTime Radio show which will be broadcasting live from the Expo on Saturday. Also on Saturday, the children can participate in the Youth Judging Program sponsored by Hagerty Insurance. Make sure you stop by the Mecum Auction Mobile Experience Semi and take advantage of their specials. The event is full of awards and is open to all Chevy models. The Corvette Chevy Expo is held at the Galveston Island Convention Center on Seawall Blvd. There is free parking in the parking garage which is located underneath the Convention Center. March 29th (11am-2pm): 2019 Runway of Hope “Sand to Pearls” Style Show & Luncheon Honoring Gina Spagnola – Presented by the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary, this will be held in the ballroom at the beautiful San Luis Resort Spa and Conference Center at 5222 Seawall Blvd. in Galveston. This fun and exciting event includes a runway-style show featuring fashions from Treasure Trove Ladies Boutique in Galveston, a silent auction and the Closet of Hope where new and gently used top fashions will be available for sale at a fraction of normal retail price. Proceeds will inspire hope in the lives of men, women, and children in the local community through the many programs of The Salvation Army. This much-anticipated event is sure to be a sellout.
