June 6th: World Oceans Day Festival & Marine Debris Art Contest

The 2020 World Oceans Day Festival is Friday, June 6th, 10am-6pm, at Stewart Beach in Galveston. 

Bring your friends and family and join in celebrating the ocean right on its doorstep – on the beach in beautiful Galveston! The festival is free to attend. World Oceans Day is the recognized day of ocean celebration and action. All around the globe individuals and groups use this day to celebrate, learn about, and do their part to help the ocean. 

From under the big tent to the shoreline, visitors will enjoy sandcastle building, drum circle, turtle rescue demonstration, lifeguards, and marine life.

Specially prepared sustainable lunch dishes prepared by Lighthouse Charity will be available, memorabilia, Beach Bucket Brigade Tours, Marine Debris Art Contest, Trash Barrel Painting, and Nurdle Exhibit presented by Ocean Action Hero Diane Wilson, are all part of the offerings that may be enjoyed by all ages.

There is no fee to attend. Sustainable Ocean lunch tickets will be $15 and may be purchased in advance online at and include commemorative cup and drink. Beach parking fee applies.

Marine Debris Art Contest

Celebrate World Oceans Day’s focus “Innovations for a Sustainable Ocean” by creating works of art from debris that would otherwise pollute our oceans! Ocean–lovers of all ages may submit pieces for display and judging! All entries will be on display for viewing and judging at World Oceans Day Beach festival at Stewart Beach, in Galveston, TX. Registration period: April 15th- May 25th. Entries are due back by June 1st. Visit for complete details.

World Oceans Day is presented by Galveston Park Board of Trustees and Artist Boat, a non-profit educational organization founded in 2003 to protect our Gulf Coast through land conservation and fun, educational, and inspiring adventures that spark creativity, awareness, and action. The goal is for everyone who experiences our Gulf Coast to value and protect its natural beauty.
