Red & White Luncheon benefiting the Jessie McGuire-Dent Scholarship Fund to assist Galveston County Seniors
The Galveston Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. invites everyone to the Red & White Luncheon 2019. This will be a charming afternoon of love and romance celebrating couples married 50 years or more. The luncheon will take place on Saturday, February 16th at 12 noon at The San Luis Resort, Spa and Conference Center, 5222 Seawall Blvd., Galveston.
The Red & White Luncheon will benefit the Jessie McGuire-Dent Scholarship Fund to assist Galveston County Seniors matriculating to college as well as community service projects sponsored by the sorority.
Jessie McGuire-Dent was one of the 22 original founding members of the illustrious organization, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., established 106 years ago on the campus of Howard University. Jessie McGuire-Dent was also a founding member of the Galveston Alumnae Chapter, chartered in 1941. Jessie McGuire-Dent was a graduate of Central High School and earned her teaching degree from Howard University. She taught Latin and later became the Dean of Girls at Central High School. Mrs. Dent, the Plaintiff for equal pay for African-American Teachers in the Galveston Independent School District, won her case on June 15, 1943, giving African-American Teachers equal pay to begin the September 1943 school year. In August of 1999, the City of Galveston named its newest recreation center, McGuire-Dent.
Guest speaker is Reverend W. I. Randall, Jr. from the Greater St. Matthews Baptist Church. You will not want to miss the Red and White Luncheon 2019, the most memorable and romantic afternoon event in Galveston.
