Sallie Anderson: Galveston Art League’s Featured Artist in November

Sallie Anderson is the featured artist at the Galveston Art League Gallery, 2117A Postoffice St., from November 1st-25th.

Many of her subdued watercolor paintings, framed and ready to hang, will be on display and offered for sale during gallery hours 12 noon-6pm Thursdays-Sundays and until 9pm during ArtWalk on Saturday, November 24th.

Sallie, who lives and teaches in Galveston, started painting watercolors in 1992. Within a year, she opened her studio and gallery in a historic building on the Strand. Several galleries later, her studio was lost to Hurricane Rita in 2005. Her new studio is on 24th Street, where she teaches (some of her students have been with her for more than two decades), paints, and creates fashion jewelry.

Sallie loves to paint flowers and still lifes. She also takes commissions to paint local houses, landscapes, seascapes, and people. While enjoying the challenge of painting large pictures, she also paints small demos to share with her students. Her artwork has been shown in galleries in Houston, Seattle, and Tokyo as well as in Galveston.

More recently, Sallie has traveled with her students to Ireland, Italy, and France to paint images in journals illustrating their travels. She has also published “Painting Galveston,” her journal that shows all parts of her adopted hometown. Living in Texas inspired her other journal, “Painting Bluebonnets.”

Sallie continues painting, exhibiting, and teaching classes. The last three years she has been giving workshops in Fredericksburg,Texas.
