Chef Mary Bass puts a twist on classic dishes by creatively using Girl Scout cookies in their preparation! You will learn to make these unique dishes all the while enjoy delicious wine pairings courtesy of our friends at Haak Winery. Learn to prepare cool & crispy Asian chicken lettuce cups with a creamy peanut sauce. Next, you will make crunchy pecan crusted gulf snapper with a fluffy rice pilaf and deep fried Brussels sprouts. For dessert? No, not just cookies!

Cooking Class: Southern Biscuit Saturdays! @ The Kitchen Chick

Come take a cooking class at The Kitchen Chick! Buttery, flaky, and tender – the hallmarks of a great biscuit! Join Chef Mary Bass and learn to master the art of baking big southern biscuits! She will teach you her biscuit basics plus you will make a seasonal fruit jam from scratch and an herb compound butter! Depending on which day you attend, you will also learn to make two gravies: homestyle sausage and creamy white; or crispy chicken fried chicken honey sammies (ssshhhhh they’re better than What-A-Burger!)! We’re throwing a big ‘ol biscuit breakfast baking party!

Cooking Class: Kitchen FUNdamentals – Relishes & chutneys! @ The Kitchen Chick

Come take a cooking class at The Kitchen Chick! We are kicking off a new Kitchen FUNdamental 4 class series focused on improving your skills in the kitchen! Whether you’re a total beginner, or just looking to brush up on your skills and expand your culinary knowledge Chef Mary Bass will help you become a more capable, confident cook! In four relaxed, fun-filled classes, you’ll master the art of preparing delicious food, while also learning about basic cooking equipment; menu planning; knife skills; as well as how to emulsify, poach, debone, caramelize, pickle, sauté, roast, slice, chop, dice & mince. All classes in this series are held on Mondays at 6:30pm. Pick and choose or sign up for all four!

 

$60/person/class.

 

March 6: Knife Skills – Learn how to hold, maintain and use kitchen knives as well as how to identify the right knife for the right job. You will practice how to properly chop, dice, mince & chiffonade! You will learn to prepare a delicious caprese frittata, ribbon asparagus salad and homemade apple galette with divine caramel sauce.

 

March 13: Relishes & Chutneys – Transforming ingredients into flavorful homemade relishes and chutneys isn’t difficult once you understand the science behind quick pickling. You will learn to make a sizzling skirt steak drizzled with bright chimichurri and quick red pickle, chicken thighs topped with savory chow chow over a bed of couscous and vanilla ice cream smothered in sweet heat ginger pineapple chutney.

 

March 20: Mise en Place, Pantry Basics & Menu Planning, Stocks & Soups – Become an organized cook that isn’t tossing out spoiled and expired foods! Learn shopping and prepping strategies to you have everything you need at your fingertips. You will learn to debone and cut up a chicken as well as make homemade seafood & chicken stocks! Learn to make a comforting chicken enchilada soup and a garden fresh tomato soup with scratch croutons.

 

March 27: Sauces & Dressings – Mastering mother sauces is essential step in your culinary repertoire. This class will focus on everyone’s fav: hollandaise! We will also teach you to emulsify and make your own salad dressings. You will learn to make a traditional remoulade sauce and peel & eat shrimp, a homemade honey dijon vinaigrette dressing drizzled over a garden salad, wrap a crunchy egg roll and dip it into a spicy peanut sauce and poach an egg topped with a classic rich hollandaise over toasted local Galveston Bread.

Cooking Class: Kids Rock the Wok – Asian-Inspired Dishes! @ The Kitchen Chick

They will cook a teriyaki chicken and baby vegetable stir fry served over a savory stir-fried rice. Next, everyone will learn to fold their own authentic egg rolls and make a tasty dipping sauce from scratch. Finally, we’ll make decadent fried wonton chocolate dumplings dusted with powdered sugar and drizzled in a homemade caramel sauce. Chopsticks are included!

Cooking Class: Kids Cozy Comfort Foods! @ The Kitchen Chick

Come take a cooking class at The Kitchen Chick! Chef Mary Bass will teach young chefs how to prepare some of their favorite comfort foods – from scratch! We’ll start by teaching your son or daughter to make mile-high, homemade, fluffy biscuits. Next, they will learn the secret to making crispy chicken-fried-chicken. We’ll take those biscuits and stack them with the savory chicken to make the best-ever southern biscuit sammies! Everyone will learn to make tasty homemade tater tots and a quick ketchup for dipping. Finally, we’ll make a frosted chocolate cream-filled cupcake that puts Hostess to shame! This is our kind of HAPPY meal!

 

$50/child. This class is open to children 7 years and older.

Next, you will learn to prepare crostini smothered in an addicting hot crawfish dip! Chef Mary will teach you how to pan-fry a flaky gulf white fish topped with a decadent creole crawfish sauce. For dessert, you will bake homemade chicory coffee brownies with toasted pecans served a la mode! It’s a class to celebrate crawfish season!

Cooking Class: Spring Fever Craft Beer Launch Series! @ The Kitchen Chick

Come take a cooking class at The Kitchen Chick! Spring is here and our popular craft beer pairing cooking class series has triumphantly returned! Chef Bailey and our friends at 2 Row Distributing, purveyors of fine craft beers, will help you throw spring parties with delicious food & craft beer full of seasonal flavors! Each class will be held at 6:30PM on a Wednesday. Sign up for one or the entire series!

March 1: I Dip, You Dip, We Dip! Bells Brewing Launch! Learn to make everyone’s favorite spicy elote (corn) dip with freshly fried chips! We’ll follow that up with crispy coconut shrimp ta-ta-tacos drizzled with fresh peach pepper quick jam snuggled next to a side of homemade refried frijoles. Finally we’ll end the class with a sweet tres leches cake! Thanks to our friends at 2 Row Distributing you will enjoy sampling Bells Brewing 2 Hearted IPA, Bells Amber and Lager of the Lakes during the cooking class!
March 8: Southern Picnic Spread! A twist on a southern classic, you will learn to bake addicting pimento cheese biscuits. Next, Chef Bailey will show you how to prepare a savory pulled pork flatbread served with roasted peppers. We’ll hold the mayo and make a warm German-style potato salad. For dessert, you’ll enjoy a traditional strawberry shortcake trifle! Our friends at 2 Row Distributing have a surprise in store for us that night – stay tuned!
March 22: Viva Saint Arnold! We’ve put an Italian spin on spring with this tasty menu! Learn to make individual fresh kale pesto polenta pizzas and super cheese mini meatball calzones! Dessert is decadent – we’ll eat silky chocolate panna cotta topped with dark chocolate shavings. Our friends at 2 Row Distributing will spoil us with the latest spring releases from Saint Arnold Brewery Company – Texas’ oldest craft brewery!
March 29: Seaside Spring Fling! Join Chef Bailey and learn to make scrumptious hush puppies from scratch with a fiery aioli. Next you’ll master a creamy dreamy mac & cheese snuggled up next to a spicy cajun shrimp po’boy slider topped with classic remoulade sauce. We’ll end on a sweet note with mini pineapple upside down cakes! Our friends at 2 Row Distributing are keeping this craft beer launch under wraps … for now! Check back soon!
