Susan Douglass Moody is the Galveston Art League’s featured artist for July. Moody’s brilliantly hued paintings on silk exhibit a soft-focus, impressionist effect. You’ll see her favorite subjects – flowers, trees, seascapes, and landscapes June 27th-July 28th.

Moody was inspired by her great-grandmother as she watched her paint. She studied fine arts at Metro State College and the Art Institute of Denver. Her works are displayed at several galleries and in private homes in Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, and Maryland.

Although knowledgeable in many media, Moody now focuses on applying paints and dyes to silk. She is excited by the unknown and uncontrollable effects without resist, which allows the paints or dyes to move through and across the fabric. “It is as if they have a mind of their own,” Moody says. Her goal is to convey joy and peace with her work.

Moody is teaching a course in painting on silk at College of the Mainland at the Lifelong Learning Center, Delany Campus. She is a member of the National Society of Artists, Silk Painters International, and the nonprofit, all-volunteer Galveston Art League (GalvestonArtLeague.com).

This is NOT your average kid class….adults enjoy it too and learn something new each time they come 

HERE, your children will be learning Art History, Technique, and Elements & Principles of Art from A-Z!

The first 30 minutes of class will be the Art History portion, where your children will get to know all the Masters, as well as the contemporary. We will be going from Primitive Cave art all the way to Andy Warhol.

Your children will leave here with new knowledge of the arts, printed handouts of the day’s lessons, and a completed piece of artwork.

We will go through ALL mediums, some will messier than others, and some will leave permanent stains. I will supply smocks for everyone, but be sure to drop off your kids with play clothes you don’t mind getting dirty, just in case 

Classes will be every Friday, 4-7pm, which gives parents a perfect opportunity to take advantage of the shops and restaurants right next door to the gallery :)

Pre-registration is preferred, but we also take walk-ins.

Learn to capture a stone or cut a piece of glass into a wire bezel and make the shank of the ring. All materials as well as the use of tools during class are provided. Beginners are welcome. This a fun ring to make. You will get compliments wherever you wear it. Cost is $105. Annette gets much of her inspiration from ancient designs, materials, and techniques. Her use of precious metals and gems reflects the value placed on these materials throughout history. Annette fabricates highly personal, dynamic art jewelry with unusual ethnic beads, vintage items and sea glass.
