The Galveston Beach Band, founded by Frank Incaprera father, has been providing concerts for over 90 years. Frank, the band leader, has been attending concerts since he was four months old! And some members of the band have been part of the band for 40+ years.

FREE concert times are every Tuesday evenings, 7.30-9.30pm, beginning June 4th. Concert location is at Sealy Pavilion off Broadway and in front of the Rosenberg Library in downtown Galveston.

The Galveston Beach Band concerts play a wide variety of music drawing from Jazz, shows and music of its time. In the video example below, Robert Gray conducts a medley of tunes from the show Chicago.

Starting in the 1920’s, the Galveston Beach Band free concerts were an important summer Island attraction, often boasting audiences of 2,000 and featured on the newspaper front page. By the 1960s the Band had declined and was revitalized, thanks to its core of loyal musicians and then new leader, Frank Incaprera.

Fast forward to today and the free concerts continue, as much loved as ever. Now a proudly family venue, concerts are a diverse mix of much-loved show tunes, big band numbers, and jazz.

Housed in Sealy Pavilion, concerts are a mixture of family, fun and summer relaxation. Frank Incaprera is the driving force behind the Galveston Beach Band.

Galveston Art League Exhibits Nature Stars in Paintings in June @ Galveston Art League
Jun 12 @ 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm

The Galveston Art League’s featured artist for June is Kimvak Jen. Her artwork, along with dozens of pieces by other Galveston Art League members, will be exhibited 12 noon-6pm Thursdays-Sundays May 30th to June 23rd at the Galveston Art League Gallery, 2117A Postoffice St. in Galveston.

Jen, a Rosharon resident, had an import-export business before retirement allowed her to indulge her love for painting. She likes to instill feelings into her paintings, making them spring with life. “Good paintings have life and soul,” she says. Jen describes herself as “a positive and happy person, aggressive and full of hope for everything, which I demonstrate through my paintings. They are sometimes brilliant with colors and sometimes are black and white, darkness, and light.”

As an 8-year old, Jen had dreamed of becoming an artist. She was awed by the beauty of nature – the colors of flowers, the majesty of trees, and the miracle of God’s work – when she studied the veins of leaves, the components of flowers, and the gnarled trunks of trees. Jen studied the art of Chinese brush painting with Master Liu Shi, a famous art master in Taiwan.

Her works have been exhibited at various locations, including the Galveston Art League Gallery; visit GalvestonArtLeague.com to learn more about this nonprofit organization and how to join.
