CD release party for Eh Ha Ha: A tribute to the original Cajun fiddle of Harry Choates @ Downtown Galveston
Oct 5 @ 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm

Join #galvestonhistory at Hendley Green for this special album release party with Kevin Anthony & G-Town. Admission is FREE and dancing shoes, blankets, and chairs are encouraged. Craft beer and wine will be available.

Harry Choates may be all but forgotten today but in the 1940s he was Elvis, Hank Williams and Jimmy Hendrix all rolled into one. Choates never left the Gulf Coast’s warm embrace but his impact, while often unacknowledged, is still felt in both Cajun music and in the Texas coast gumbo of country, Texas swing, blues and Tejano.

Kevin Anthony & G-Town is honoring that impact on their new album celebrating Choates’ music. Best known for his reworking and recording of Jole Blon, Choates is the only musician to take a Cajun song into the top five of the Billboard Charts. While known for his Cajun songs, Choates loved Texas Swing and his live shows were a mixture of songs in English and French.

Kevin Anthony grew up in Galveston and he remembers listening to a mixture of country, Cajun and blues music growing up. One of the first songs he learned to play was Jole Blon, taught to him by his grandmother on the porch of their house.

“Harry did so much to bring these different types of music together,” Anthony said. “Whether it’s Cajun music or Swing or Blues or Tejano, they are all talking to each other, they can all work together. That’s what we’ve been trying to do in this band since we started.”
