Galveston Arts Center presents “Undercover,” a solo exhibition by Venezuelan-born and Houston-based artist Gerardo Rosales opening Saturday, October 12th, 6-9pm, with artist talk beginning at 6:30pm. Rosales explores issues of class, race, gender, and immigration to expose social inequalities experienced by immigrants coming from Latin America to the United States. Rosales appropriates ornamental aspects of folk art and geometric abstraction, infiltrated with elements that evoke adversity faced by these individuals looking for a better life, only to find themselves facing similar conditions of social and economic exclusion. His paintings include rich colors and patterns that juxtapose the harshness of the wilderness of the tropics with domestic imagery. His works mix conflict with playfulness as a means to exaggerate reality with irony. The exhibition will be on view through January 5th, 2020.

HERE, your children will be learning Art History, Technique, and Elements & Principles of Art from A-Z!
The first 30 minutes of class will be the Art History portion, where your children will get to know all the Masters, as well as the contemporary. We will be going from Primitive Cave art all the way to Andy Warhol.
Your children will leave here with new knowledge of the arts, printed handouts of the day’s lessons, and a completed piece of artwork.
We will go through ALL mediums, some will messier than others, and some will leave permanent stains. I will supply smocks for everyone, but be sure to drop off your kids with play clothes you don’t mind getting dirty, just in case
Classes will be every Friday, 4-7pm, which gives parents a perfect opportunity to take advantage of the shops and restaurants right next door to the gallery :)
Pre-registration is preferred, but we also take walk-ins.

The Polar Express™ Train Ride is a theatrical re-creation of the classic children’s story on board a real train. Set to the soundtrack of the motion picture, passengers will relive the magic of the classic story as they are whisked away on the Polar Express for a magical one-hour trip to meet Santa.
Passengers are served hot chocolate and a treat by dancing chefs, enjoy a reading of the book by Chris Van Allsburg, and receive the first gift of Christmas (a silver sleigh bell) after Santa boards the train to greet families. Attendants lead passengers in caroling and fun holiday activities on the return trip to Galveston’s historic depot.
The Polar Express™ Train Ride in Galveston consists of six separate cars pulled by vintage locomotives from the Galveston Railroad Museum’s collection. On board, you will be seated in either Coach or First Class according to your ticket purchase. Every guest will experience the same excitement and wonder of THE POLAR EXPRESS™ Train Ride.

In this inspired class you will learn to prepare classic coq au vin with a twist (wink!). Next you will learn the secret ingredient for crispy, flavorful roasted potatoes. We will bake light & airy French clafoutis full of savory ingredients like walnuts, winter pears and blue cheese. For dessert, we will make traditional flaky tarte tatin! Fall never tasted so chic!

November 8th-30th, “A Tuna Christmas” by Ed Howard, Jaston Williams, and Joe Sears will be on stage at Island ETC. This fun “tuna” adventure is a holiday classic.
In this hilarious sequel to “Greater Tuna,” it’s Christmas in the third-smallest town in Texas. Radio station OKKK news personalities Thurston Wheelis and Arles Struvie report on the various Yuletide activities, including the hot competition in the annual lawn-display contest and that Joe Bob Lipsey’s production of ‘A Christmas Carol’ is jeopardized by unpaid electric bills. “A Tuna Christmas” is a total delight for audiences of all ages.
Performances begin at 8pm except for Sunday matinees start at 2:30pm. Sunday matinees will be on November 10th and November 17th.

Boys have been singing at Vienna’s Imperial Chapel since 1296. Joseph Haydn, Michael Haydn, and Franz Schubert were themselves choir boys. Today, there are 100 choristers between the ages of nine and fourteen, divided into four touring groups. The Choir’s repertoire includes everything from medieval to contemporary and experimental music. Motets and lieder for boys’ choirs form the core of the touring repertoire, as do the Choir’s own arrangements of quintessentially Viennese music like waltzes and polkas. This will be a delightful evening for all ages! This project is sponsored in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts and Texas Commission on the Arts. Tickets are $25-$75.
