Thanksgiving weekend Hotel Galvez invites guests and the community to celebrate the start of the holidays with the Official City of Galveston Holiday Lighting Celebration on Friday, November 29th. Hotel Galvez & Spa®, A Wyndham Grand® Hotel is hosting its twelfth annual Galveston Holiday Lighting Celebration on Friday, November 29th at 6pm featuring performances from The Nutcracker, area choirs and dance groups, and the Galveston Community Band. The Lighting Celebration highlights one of the more than 50 days of holiday fun in Galveston, the “Winter Wonder Island” of Texas. The Galveston Holiday Lighting Celebration is an annual, free family event and marks the start of the official holiday season in Galveston.
The Galveston Holiday Lighting Celebration begins with the arrival of Santa Claus by horse-drawn carriage, followed by the lighting of the hotel’s 35-foot Christmas tree with a countdown led by Santa Claus and Galveston’s Mayor Pro-Tem Craig Brown. KHOU-TV’s Mia Gradney will emcee the event.
Performance groups include the Galveston Community Band directed by Doyle Neuwiller, Fanfare Lutheran Music Academy Singers and Dancers led by Anita Donato, Trinity School Choir led by Laura Hyatt, The Burnet Royals directed by Stephanie Silva, and DLS Dance Studio under the direction of Tatiana Verega. The evening concludes with a performance by the Galveston Ballet under the direction of Janel Amsallem. Dickens on The Strand’s Queen Victoria and other special characters will also make appearances during the festivities. Additionally, children can have photos taken with Santa Claus in the hotel’s Music Hall. Souvenir photos with Santa by KC Photography will be available for purchase for $15.
Throughout the evening’s festivities, Hotel Galvez staff collects monetary donations for the Salvation Army to help make the holidays brighter for all members of the community.
Hotel Galvez & Spa will unveil its special “The Night Before Christmas” themed gingerbread village on Thursday, November 28th. This famous poem will be recreated in gingerbread for guests to enjoy. The gingerbread house is on public display in the lobby through January 2nd.
“We are honored to host another Holiday Lighting Celebration for our guests and the local community,” says Complex General Manager Marty Miles. “Every year, this event gets bigger and it’s a fun way to celebrate the beginning of the 2019 Christmas and holiday season.”

December 7th (8-10am): Breakfast With Dickens –The great-great-granddaughter of Charles Dickens, Jane Monk, isn’t just coming to this year’s event to take in the sights and share in her heritage, she’s also there to enjoy a traditional English breakfast with our guest chef! Your RSVP for breakfast includes a keepsake ornament, photos with Father Christmas, and a performance with the Houston Children’s Choir (Saturday, Sunday TBD). Join them as they prepare a one-of-a-kind experience in one of Galveston’s most beloved historic homes, the 1859 Ashton Villa. Jane Dickens Monk will be on hand signing books and you can upgrade your ticket to include a specially signed book ready for pick-up that morning. Reservations are required and include festival admission.
Come take a cooking class at The Kitchen Chick! Join Chef Rachel of Felicite Macarons and learn to make authentic macarons in festive seasonal flavors! She’ll share her traditional recipe and you’ll learn the proper techniques to create the perfect crunch that transcends into a pillowy softness (aka heaven!). You will bake these classic cookies, make two fillings: one from scratch + one quick & easy and add an edible embellishment for presentation bonus points! Plus you’ll leave with beautiful cookies to take home too (if you can resist eating them all in class, that is!) These cookies are definitely made with love!
