Drop-In Draw Your Dreams @ Rosenberg Library

Envision a better life by ‘drawing your dreams.’ Sponsored by Africa Children’s Haven each participating child will receive a free set of crayons and a drawing pad. All will be invited to participate in an exhibition of the children’s drawings at the Galveston Arts Center during Art Walk on Saturday, January 18, 2020.

“Battle of Galveston” Tour @ Ashton Villa

Take an hour long walking tour of the Battle of Galveston. Fought on January 1, 1863, this was the only Civil War battle fought in Galveston. Sites on the tour include the 1861 United States Custom House, the Hendley Building, the harbor, and more! The tour meets and departs from the 1861 US Custom House located at 502 20th Street. Draw Your Dreams – An Exhibit and Art Workshop for Kids @ Galveston Arts Center
Jan 7 @ 4:00 pm – 9:00 pm

The event, the first of its kind in Galveston County, will feature art from children in Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa and India and, with your participation, from hundreds of Galveston and La Marque kids.

Children of all ages are invited to attend and “Draw Their Dreams.”

Art supplies will be provided along with snacks and a chance to win major prizes.

Inspired and funded by New York artist Dinesh Doshi, the project has provided art supplies to thousands of African students.

Join us in building a wall of dreams.

Artist Talk: Andy Davis @ Galveston Artists Residency

Multidisciplinary artistAndy Daviswill be working on a special project with GAR this spring, culminating in a gallery exhibition opening March 7th, 2020. During his time on the island he will be preparing the second iteration of his seaweed operetta, Watergrass.
 
Join us next Friday to learn more Davis’s practice and the upcoming project, refreshments and snacks will be provided.
Your hands are fronds of seaweeds, swaying in waves.

The Bishop’s Palace (a.k.a. Gresham House) is a contributing building in the East End District and a National Historic Landmark. Bishop’s Palace is recognized as one of America’s finest examples of Victorian exuberance and Gilded Age extravagance and is listed by the U.S. Department of the Interior as a National Historic Landmark. Bishop’s Palace is located at 1402 Broadway at Ave. J.

Basement to Attic Tour – Offering participants a rare look into parts of the 1892 home that are typically off-limits, the Bishop’s Palace Basement to Attic Tour features Mrs. Gresham’s studio. An exclusive third-floor view provides a truly one of a kind panoramic of the Gulf of Mexico.

Built of stone and steel for the railroad magnate Walter Gresham and his family, this famous house was designed by Nicholas Clayton, Galveston’s premier Victorian-era architect. Bishop’s Palace is recognized as one of America’s finest examples of Victorian exuberance and Gilded-Age extravagance and is listed by the U. S. Department of the Interior as a National Historic Landmark.
