The 17th season for Island ETC gets under way on July 5th with their production of the smash Broadway musical “Mamma Mia!” The musical runs through August 3rd.
“Mamma Mia!” weds the music and lyrics of Swedish superstars ABBA to a classic romantic comedy plot. Set on a sunlit Greek island, the musical tells the story of Sophie, a young woman preparing for marriage. She is hoping her father can walk her down the aisle, but she has never met the man. Her mother’s diaries provide clues as to who he might be, so she sends wedding invitations to the three possibilities, getting their attention by putting the invites in her mother’s name.
“Mamma Mia!” is written by Catherine Johnson with music and lyrics from ABBA’s Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus.
The show will be performed July 5th-6th, July 11th-14th, July 18th-21st, July 25th-27th, and August 1st-3rd.
Performances begin at 8pm except for Sunday matinees on July 14th and 21st, which start at 2:30pm.
Tickets are $30 for adults and $25 for students and senior citizens (55+). Tickets are available at islandetc.org.

It’s beginning to feel like summer, so why not spend a few hours at the park? Saengerfest Park, located in the heart of Downtown Galveston, is a great place to find free family-friendly fun.
Saengerfest Park is a small, square park located on the corner of 23rd St. and The Strand in Galveston’s Historic Strand District. Saengerfest Park is known for having a large, playable chess set, a large compass that can be used as a seat, a colorful iconic Galveston wall mural, a huge beach chair offering photo opportunities, wooden benches, an old-fashioned London-style phone booth, and a stage used for festivals, movies, and concerts.
Visitors and residents are invited to enjoy free movies the first Saturday of each month beginning just after dusk. Moviegoers are encouraged to set up a blanket or chair. Scheduled movies are:
