November 23rd (1-4pm): “Smoky Mountain Music” Gallery Presentation – Enjoy an afternoon with the North Harris County Dulcimer Society as they share the history and beautiful lilting sounds of traditional music played upon this truly unique American instrument. From hazy origins, the dulcimer first appeared in the early 1800s in the Appalachian Mountains of southwest Virginia in areas settled by the British, the Scottish, and the Irish. These people claimed the dulcimer as their own and that is why so many British, Scottish, and Irish tunes are played on it. The word “Dulcimer” comes from the Greek meaning ‘sweet song’ and it is indeed a pleasure to listen to its lovely melodies.
