Six Fun Ways To Tour Galveston

So you finally made it to the island and now you want to see it all. There are many fun and unique ways to do this. Here’s our pick for six ways to see Galveston and learn the lay of the island.

Galveston Trolley: The Galveston Rubber Wheel Trolleys (“Galveston Trolleys”) run daily 11am-7pm Monday thru Thursday, and 10am-10pm Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The fee to ride is $1 for adults, and minors who are accompanied by adults can ride for free. Riders will need to bring exact change to place in the fare box; drivers do not have the ability to make change.

Stops will take you from Stewart Beach along the Seawall to Moody Gardens as well as down 25th Street to numerous stops throughout historic Downtown. For a schedule, visit galvestontx.gov/816/Trolley-Information.

Bike Rentals: In addition to beach cruisers and surreys, visitors can now rent electric bikes!

  • Zipp E-Bikes, located at 2311 Mechanic, opened this summer and offers hour, two-hour, half-day and full-day rentals. Hourly rentals start at $20 per hour. They are also offering a guided Island Adventure Tour. The shop is located directly across the street from The Tremont House.
  • Island Bicycle, 1808 Seawall Blvd., offers daily bike and surrey rentals. The shop offers a huge selection of bikes of all kinds.

Segway Tours: SegCity Galveston, located at 519 25th Street, offers a variety of tour options ranging from 30 minutes to 2.5 hours. Participants also have the option to rent a GoPro to record their tour. The website provides a detailed description of the tours and current pricing.

Duck Tours: Galveston Duck Tours provides a land and water sightseeing tour of Galveston. The tour starts on the Seawall then takes guests on a 15-minute tour in Offatts Bayou. Once it returns on land, the tour continues past Galveston’s historic homes and Strand District.

Driving Tours: Galveston Historic Tours, 2328 Broadway, offers daily driving tours on a 14-passenger van. The tour departs for the Galveston Visitor Center housed at Ashton Villa. Check their schedule for special monthly tours.

Helicopter Tours: Galveston Helicopter Tours is an exhilarating way to see Galveston. Tours range from $50 for a beach tour to $150 for a 20-minute “Around the Island” tour and $175 for a 25-minute sunset tour. Your friends will be jealous!

Golf Cart Rental: If you plan in advance, Coastal Cruizers Custom Carts offer golf cart rentals. Reservations should be made in advance.

All of these options offer visitors a fun way to see Galveston and plan out their tour itinerary.
