It was January, 2020 when Krystal Brown, Gary Frisk and Richie Vios got together for a Paint-Out. The Pandemic was just starting to make some noise in a land far far away.
Who knew?
Fast forward to June when Krystal joined Gary for a Paint-Out while “masking up” and maintaining social distance.
Along came Richie again, then Marchita Priest and “The Bandits” were formed!
During successive Paint-Outs, others joined: Nancy Tyler, Kathy Hammond, Lisette McClung and Marla Luttrell.
Their goal: to paint outside, to feel one with their tribe and to enjoy each other’s company despite the masks and social distancing.
This exhibition is the reward!
Come see the beauty these wonderful artists created of their Texas surroundings, much of which was done here on the Island.
During a time when solitude created anxiety and depression for so many, these artists worked together to uplift one another and while doing so, made some amazing art!
Opening Reception for “The Bandits Take Galveston” is Saturday, April 24th, from 5:30-9pm.
In conjunction with ArtWalk, the newly formed group of Galveston Venues who began Art Stroll in March again will be open late, offering libations graciously donated by Del Papa Distributors, as well as snacks and at some venues, such as Third Coast, Live music.
